happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Here is a spooky illustration just in time. This year I was lucky enough to work for the lovely Chicago Costume Company to create some advertisements for the train stop as well as a huge storefront banner, with a likeness of the owner as the Costume King of Chicago! It was inspired by the pop art motif as there is a huge Roy Lichtenstein exhibit at the Art Institute this year. And the crown is constructed of elements of Chicago's amazing skyline. So if you are in town, check it out!

Waikiki Coloring Book!

Here is a glimpse of an amazing freelance gig I had the great pleasure of working on this spring. I illustrated the cover and interior pages for a children's coloring activity book for a new Hyatt Place Hotel in Waikiki Beach... yes, if you are a guest there, you too can color in my line art!! Here is the cover, featuring a fun hand-rendered font I styled up for ultra tiki goodness.

Spumco Style Bite!

Just to break the tension I did some doodle portraits in a vaguely Kricfalusi-esque style. It was fun and challenging to draw in distorted, exaggerated kinda grotesque ways. And they certainly garnered a few lulz from the recipients.

Heading Out

This piece was a week-long effort in trying a more painterly digital style. It was outside my comfort area, but I love the way it came together and learned so much about lighting and perspective. It's also my first fantasy story illustration of a young girl leaving her floating city to head into the wilderness to perfect her magic craft. Enjoy!

Just a little concept doodle of a salad girl! It was fun to get reference for the different textures of leaf... inspired by wasting time reading a bento blog! :)

Game of Thrones

Aaron had a Game of Thrones premiere shindig last night and prepared some tasty medieval-type recipes... roast chicken, bread and cheeses, plum pudding.. and I tried fiddlehead ferns for the first time! Maybe the tastiest green thing I ever did eat. Anyway, I drew a doodle of Arya last week, so I may make a Game of Thrones doodle each week because they're such fun characters.

Bard Fiction

Just a fun doodle based off the play I saw last night "Bard Fiction", a Shakespeare adaptation of Tarantino's cult fave. It was really clever and a lot of fun, with great performances and I loved the costume design choices. www.greenhousetheatre.org for more information!
